Marty Wasserman, M.D., J.D.
Medical Director
Dr. Martin Wasserman is the medical director at Optimal Solutions Group, LLC (Optimal). Before initiating a nearly 25-year career in state and local government health department leadership, Dr. Wasserman was an officer in the federal government in a variety of positions, including service as the second Director of the National Health Service Corps in 1974. He also directed the pediatric emergency room and outpatient department for the University of Maryland Medical School and was CEO of Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital in Baltimore. During this period, Dr. Wasserman attended the University of Maryland School of Law, graduating with honors, and was admitted to the Maryland Bar. He began his career in health department leadership in 1978 as Director of the Department of Human Services in Arlington, Virginia and then went on to similar positions in both Montgomery County and Prince Georges County, Maryland. In addition, Dr. Wasserman has served on the faculty of the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and was inducted into the public health honor society.
Dr. Wasserman has spent the majority of his career as both a clinical and administrative physician in the public sector. After graduating cum laude/Phi Beta Kappa from Williams College, he attended Johns Hopkins Medical School from which he was later elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He completed his residency at Strong Memorial Hospital, with the University of Rochester, where he served as Chief Resident in pediatrics. Later, he went to Gallup, New Mexico, where he treated Navajo children during his stay in the Indian Health Service.
Dr. Wasserman served as President of the National Association of County Health Officials for four years and recently concluded a three-year term as Chairman of the Public Health Foundation. He currently serves on the Council of Advisors for the Partnership for Prevention.
